The Maltese authorities have announced that since Monday, October 4, the COVD-19 vaccination certificates issued by Israel, Kosovo, Palestine, Bahrain, and Bermuda are accepted as valid proof of immunity against the virus.

In line with the announcement that has been made by Malta’s official travel portal, VisitMalta, all nationals of one of the five countries mentioned above who plan on travelling to Malta are now permitted entry as long as their vaccination certificate meets all the requirements that the country has set.

Based on the current rules that Malta has, in order for a vaccination certificate that has been issued in Israel, Kosovo, Palestine, Bahrain, and Bermuda to be recognised, the document should specify that the holder has completed the vaccination process with one of the vaccines that have been approved for use by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

Consequently, such a rule implies that travellers from the five third countries will be allowed entry to Malta only if their certificate shows that they have been vaccinated with one of the following vaccines:

  • AstraZeneca EU (Vaxzevria)
  • Moderna (Spikevax)
  • Johnson & Johnson (Janssen)
  • Pfizer/BioNTech (Comirnaty)

Additionally, it has been emphasised that in order for the certificate to be valid, except for including one of the vaccines mentioned above, the document should also indicate that at least 14 days have passed since the last vaccine dose was received.

Moreover, according to the Maltese Ministry of Health, vaccination certificates that prove that the holder has been immunised against the COVID-19 disease with a combination of two EMA-approved doses are also accepted as long as the required time frame between the first and the second dose is met.

In order to avoid any confusion before planning a trip to Malta, it is highly recommended that every traveler checks their vaccine’s validity. This can be done by using the vaccine checker tool developed which helps travelers all over the world to verify whether their destination country accepts as valid proof of immunity the jab they have been immunized with.

Except for recognizing the vaccination certificate of Israel, Kosovo, Palestine, Bahrain, and Bermuda, it has been revealed that since September 29, certificates issued in Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and Rwanda have been recognized under the same rules.
